Education in the World Today

I used to think that 21st century education was preparing students for a world that uses technology in every aspect. I thought that the main goal of 21st century education was to make their students proficient in the skills necessary to function in the world. I thought that the teachers were preparing students to enter the workforce and for everyday life in the 21st century. It seemed to me that it was not integrating technology in a way that would be helpful for the world that we live in today. We have so much technology that is used every single day of our lives and I thought that 21st century education just was not doing enough to prepare students for that. I had these feelings because that was the experience that I had.

Now I think that 21st century education is heading toward more technology. I think that the world that we live in forces this. With the advancement of AI tech and robots, it feels like there is no other option than mechanization. I think that there is no other way for the world to move, with all of the new innovation, I think that teachers need to be more aware of this. It seems to me that some teachers are set in their ways and do not want to change with the times. This seems like a problem to me because of how technology is integrated into every other aspect of our lives. Students wake up and immediately use technology. Whether it be their phones, computers or their gaming devices, technology is used an astounding amount throughout the course of a day. I think that 21st century education needs to keep making strides to integrate technology into their lesson plans and their classrooms.

Questions I still have:

  1. Will classrooms eventually be phased out and have class strictly online?
  2. How will schools make sure that their students are using technology in the proper manner?
  3. What happens if a teacher is not proficient enough with technology to properly teach it?
  4. Can anything be done to change the minds of those teachers that are set in their ways and are against using technology in the classroom?
